Nessun Dorma coverSide ASide B

‘Nessun Dorma’ (from Bristol) were Seamus Cummins (bass), Paul Perry (vocals), Phil (drums), and Ju(lian) Newby & Tony ‘Tone’ (guitarists). In the Bristol-based zine Read It! one can find: >>They were originally called ‘Night Terror Syndrome’, formed in early 1988 by Tony (guitar) & Luke (bass), Paul & Phil, and Julian had played in ‘Organised Chaos’ and sang for the ‘Stupid Humans’ [early 80s], the earliest incarnation of the ‘Subhumans’. In spring ’89 Luke left to join ‘Maggot Slayer Overdrive’. Their old friend Seamus replaced him. They took the name ‘Nessun Dorma’ (None Shall Sleep – the opera-song Pavarotti did at the soccer world-cup), at the time of their 2nd demo (1990) [this one here].<< I got in touch with them when they were touring with ‘Sons Of Ishmael’ (read 90-09-02). They would come over a couple of times again later (see Vort’n Vis concert-list). They recorded some tracks May ’90 and put them on this tape with others from March ’91. Some of the songs were re-recorded, together with others, in Oct 1991 for the Chew It Over LP (released on Mike Foster’s label M.C.R.). The band described their muisc as “loud and heave progressive punk”… From my review of this tape in Tilt! #6: >>Raging, straightforward HC  (that rips your head open if you pump up the volume) with breaks and tempochanges. […] Quite desperate and emotional singing. Personal lyrics about the hard edges of life. A very promising band.<<
