Razende Roeland (Hol) live (Zoetermeer, Nl, 88-05-01)

Standard

tracks [titles by Peter van den Akker]: intro / NATO Massacre / Unaware / Cancer / Kill The Earth – Destroying People

This is a registration of a (part of a) show ‘Razende Roeland’ (“raging Roeland”) did at youthcentre Mevr. Latenstaan in Zoetermeer. They played together with ‘Hate Crew‘ (Bel) and ‘Ultimate Sabotage’ (Nl).

‘R.R.’ was from Leiden. In 1991 they released a 12″: the people playing on that were Jaco Benders (drums), Peter van den Akker (bass), Ben Tijsma (guitar), ‘Mag’ Mark Schoneveld (guitar) & Rikkert Meilof (vocals).

‘Razende Roeland’ started as a punk band in the squat-scene in Leiden (1984-85) with Jaco (drums/guitar), ‘Goof’ (drums/guitar), Chris (vocals), Tito (vocals) and myself. (There was a tape with Tito singing and Jaco drumming.) 1986-88 our sound was more crossover (due to the growing influence of metal, mainly ‘Slayer’ & ‘Metallica’); the line-up then was myself (bass/vocals), Hennie Vandersteen [Hendrik van der Steen] (guitar), Ben (guitar; ex ‘Hang To Drip Dry’) & Jaco (drums). In 1987 we did a tape entitled Gosh. In ’89 Hennie was replaced by ‘Mag’, and Tjeerd Volbeda sang for about a year. 1989-91 we played crossover punk/metal/rock and did a self-titled album.

Jaco, our drummer is touring with ‘Neuroot’ nowadays [2023]; he played for them in the early days too…

Militant Mothers (Ger) Hit Your Heart!, tape (1988)

Standard

(side A): intro / Getting Nuts / My Body And Me / Peter Parker Meets His Mother

(side B): I Gotta Kill Myself / The Touch / extro

A tape from Steven ‘Stel’ R.’s collection.

‘M.M.’ was the band of ‘Karl Nagel’ (vocals; ex ‘Morbid Outburst’, Hackfleisch editor) – real name Peter Altenburger. The bassist was Harvey ‘Hustler’ Quast (also ex ‘Morbid Outburst’), guitarist Eike (88-89)/ Olivié Wolf (90-92)/ ‘Chico’ Roland Wedig (91-92) & drummer Hilmar Vogt. The Hannover band did a show for Smurfpunx in Aalst (90-03-03). At that time their first album ‘Acid of Life’ was out. Musically they refer to ‘Bad Brains’: varied HC with power. Others compared them with ‘Scream’, ‘L.U.L.L.’, ‘Black Sabbath’, ‘The Birthday Party’, ‘Dead Kennedys’, ‘Mottek’, etc.! (interview in Seconds To Nowhere #3).

The live songs were recorded off the board at the Anthrax in 1988 & ’89.

We probably did an interview with the band for L’Oreille Cassée (Laurent Laloue’s zine; I helped) or for On A Faim!…

There was also a tape exemplifying the cooperation of Rotterdam bands, with ‘Ptoooing’, ‘Anarcrust’, ‘Sex Slaves’ & ‘Vanity 4’ (For Those Who Are Deaf…Tough Shit!). In fact ‘Anarcrust didn’t exist yet. We wanted to start some sort of speedmetal band together with Ronny & Ed, and we in 6 weeks we wrote/recorded the first songs. We sent out a lot to venues and that got us a lot of gigs, together with ‘Sex Slaves’. Playing with 2 bands isn’t easy so Bart & Harold (both in two bands) eventually quit ‘Ptooooing’ (They became ‘Dog Breath’.) and ‘Sex Slaves’ later transferred into ‘Mental Diarrhoea’.

Sas ‘Anarcrust’

‘Pankréâsse’ were an offshoot of the ‘Dumbs’. At this point, they were down to a trio with Eric Burman coming in on bass/vocals to join his brother Steve on drums, and (I think) Hughes Sweeney on guitar. The Burman brothers had played in the ‘Dumbs’ with Phil Boucher and Mike Genest (? “Jeunesse”)… ‘Pankréâsse’ were around for a few years and had ties to both the metal and punk scenes…
