This tape is from Dirk Michiels’ (Punk Etc) collection… It was released by Borderless Countries Tapes (BCT) – Chris Chacon (San Diego, California).

HardCore punk band from Hamilton (Ontario) with Doug Eleveld (guitar/vocals), Craig Caron (drums), Helen Wong (bass) and – for a while – Rob Moir (vocals). After this they recorded a 3-track demo (that included a cover of ‘Reagan Youth’s song Degenarated). The band also appeared on compilation-tapes such as At War with Vivisectors (Generic tapes, 1987), International Sound Communication Volume 14 (1987), Hunt The Hunters Now! (Acts Of Defiance, 1988), Stop Beating That Rhythm On Your Knees (No Profit Productions, 1988) & Greenearth Vol. 3 (1988). Apparently there’s also a video with a TV-interview by a right-wing TV-host (the Wally George Show)…

Jaywalker (Swi) promo (1987)

Standard

tracks: Simple Divorce / Seeing Better Now / Kick In My Vein /// Can’t Tell / Big Depression / Liberation Act / Homo Oeconomicus

On these pages here, people can already find a promo from 1991 by this Swiss (Zürich) band. This tape here is a contribution by Dirk Michiels (Punk Etc).

The band consisted of ‘Dee Dee’ Dietmar Gallhammer (guitar/vocals; R.I.P), Dominique Mollet (drums), Urs Schwaller (bass; R.I.P.) & Joke Lanz (vocals/bass; only mentioned on the first tape).

This tape was obviously released after I left the band (1989; shortly before my son was born – the main reason was that I wanted to spend more time with my family. But it was also the beginning of my ‘Sudden Infant’ project.). The band was formed in 1986 as a trio: DeeDee on guitar, Dominique on drums and myself on bass & vocals. Urs Schwaller joined the band in ’87/88 and I focussed on vocals.

‘DeeDee’ was the driving force of the band. He had all the contacts and was responsible for getting the releases out. It was a shock when he died. I remember his funeral in a small village in Switzerland. I came from Berlin to say goodbye. It was really sad. Unfortunately I don’t have contact anymore with Dominique who was the drummer. He used to play drums in a band called ‘Dwarfish’ but that’s ages ago…

Joke Lanz

I didn’t find this tape in my ‘archive’. Based on the cover, an other one and my memories (from over 30 years ago), I’m nearly sure that these are our very first recordings (oldest songs). They where never released, just served as promo to get gigs for our first tour (Yugoslavia, Denmark, The Netherlands, France: 24 Sep – 11 Oct, 1987). The tracks were recorded live in our rehearsal-room, March 1987 (DD: guitar/vocals, Joke Lanz: bass, and me drumming). It was also before we started Aural Exciter recs (there’s no number and it’s not in the discography).

In 1994 DD made a box with two tapes with unreleased material and later projects (‘Jaywalker’ , ‘Possessed By A Fury That Burns From Inside’). There are three songs the same as on this tape here (Seeing Better Now, Kick In My Vein, Can’t Tell), dating from March 1987. So that’s the reason why I think that this tape here dates from ’87.

Neuroot (Hol) Macht Kaput Wass Euch Kaput Macht; tape (1983)

Standard

(side 1): Ignorant / Conservative / Police Provocation / Dogs Of The System / G.B.O. Gestapo / I Won’t Conform

(side 2): Macht Kaput Wass Euch Kaput Macht / State Brain / Royal Menace / Crisis / Democracy

Part of Dirk Michiel (Punk Etc) ‘s collection. This tape was recorded (October 3 & 10, 1983) by Mat Aerts (Limbabwe) in the Bauplatz studio in Venlo. Playing for ‘Neuroot‘ at the time were H.P. van Beusekom (drums), Ed(win) van Dalen (guitar), Wouter Noordhof (vocals) & Marcel Stol (bass). Macht Kaput Wass Euch Kaput Macht is German and means “destroy what destroys you”.

We took the train to Venlo. Everything was recorded live in one day live an later we went back for another day to mix, etc. It costed a couple of hundred guilders [fl 200 = 100 Euro]. It was the first time we recorded but it went smoothly. Mat was a funny guy, we knew him already as the live sound guy for ‘Pandemonium’ and we played with them regularly all over the country. Mat was a bit older and had some more experience; also regarding political activism (something that appealed to us). We were 18/19 and had since the beginning of that year (1983) fled the parental home in Doesburg/Doetinchem; Wouter & Edwin to Nijmegen, myself to Arnhem and H.P. still lived with his parents and brother in Doetinchem. Back then we still rehearsed in the Stokvishal [youthcentre/venue in Arnhem until 1984; precursor to the Goudvishal] (on the big stage) and had developed our sound in that big hall; actually a ‘large’ sound for such a bunch of beginners, we thought. Nowadays we still play two songs of those sessions in our live set (Macht Kaputt… & Conservative).

Oh, and I picked up Macht Kaputt Wass Euch Kaputt Macht from the (environment of the) R.A.F. [Rote Armee Fraktion] and added Macht Kaputt Die Macht myself. I’d never heard ‘Ton Steine Scherben’, the German hippy band from the German squat-movement (who have a song with the same title), until decades later.

Standard

(side 1): Bleeding / Rise / Up! / One Flew Over / Move

(side 2):  Rain / Circle / Mute / 9152342+1 / Face / Lack

This tape is part of Dirk Michiels (Punk Etc) ‘s collection.

In this hardcore band (from Munich/München): Constantin Curtius (bass), Sascha Schwegeler (drums), Dalibor ‘Schläger’ Racquet (guitar) & Thomas(so) Schultze (vocals; ex ‘The Exblödet’, ‘Drug Free Youth’, ‘Everything Falls Apart’).

Thomasso was one of the co-founders of Trust magazine in 1986.

The recordings for this happened in Eindoven in 1989. The album (with 2 bonus-tracks) was released in 1990. Some of the tracks were also on a tape from an other recording-session (’89). Their music was described as “heavy machinery for old Rollins Band adepts; sledgehammer rock” or “psycho-core” or “next phase hardcore”, others refer to ‘Blast’, ‘Black Sabbath’ & ‘Black Flag’…

There’s another tape – a 5 song demo – that came a little earlier (also 1990) and a is bit rougher, but also recorded in a studio. Here’s the tracks: Rise / Up! / Face / Limits / Ammunition. if I remember correctly Limits is only on that tape…
