This band (mixing melodic HardCore & ska) were from Whitford/Exeter (Devon) and consisted of two people who had been in ‘Wordbug’: Nigel Coleman (drums) & Dave Bibby (guitar/vocals); they joined forces with Ralph Hamilton (bass; later ‘Bob Tilton’; R.I.P.). Matthew Reynolds a.k.a. Martha did vocals. Guitarist Paul Symes was added at a later moment.

Steve Buxton of Ripping Thrash introduced them to the world in 1992 via a split-tape with ’16 B.U.H.’; that contained tracks from their two demos. In ’94 the Welsh label Dragnet (Welly ‘Artcore’ designed the cover) put out an album (Urge) that included some of the tracks from the 7″ singles (plus some others). These 7″s were Presence, & Waste (both released by Sacro Egoismo), and a split with ‘Burnt Fökker Peppers’ (on Broccoli recs).

They appeared also on a bunch of compilations; such as the Ambala Sweet Centre compilation-7” (with ‘Malva’, ‘Curll’, ‘Cradle’ & ‘Honey Honey’) in ’92, A Scream From the Silence Volume 1 (Loony Tunes recs ’92), You’ve Heard It All Before (‘Crass’ covers compilation; Ruptured Ambitions ’93) and Sing Along With … (W.R.F. ’94)

In 2017 the band contributed a track to the compilation (Too Much Too Late) celebrating 40 years Of 2Tone (Ruptured Ambitions)…

I haven’t had any communication with Matthew for 25 years, I really have no idea of the song-titles…

We were very young, very enthusiastic and had no idea what we were doing, we played a lot of shows, recorded a lot of songs, played with some of our heroes (‘Fugazi’, etc.), were helped by so many, let down by so few and then imploded in a flash when we finally figured it all out.

Oh yeah; ‘Muse’ used to support us!

Nigel Coleman

Matthew sang on all releases. We had a steady line-up for every release. Paul Symes joined the band later for an 7″-compilation (Ambala Sweet Centre) and the Presence 7″.

The tracks? I haven’t heard some of these for 30 years! It’s basically the ‘Crass’ cover So What plus the Urge LP… For some reason the www listing/description for the Urge LP miss out Reach in between Urge and Is For Delirium… So What was not part of the Urge album. Let’s Go Find Hicks (a dub) was the last track.
