Stompin’ Ground (Sin) Measured By The Richter Scale; tape (1995)

No, not the British ‘Stampin’ Ground’ but ‘Stompin’ Ground’ from Singapore! Can’t remember how I got this tape. Probably the same person that provided the Lion City Hardcore CD (compilation with a bunch of bands from that tiny country). Members were singer Hafidz Samsudin, bassist Syed Mahdzar, drummer Ayong ‘Al Sayf’ and guitarist Suhaimi Subandie. The band actually started in the late 80s and did a demo (Grey) in 1991. A Japanese label released an EP (We Set The Pace) in 1993 and these tracks here on CD (with 2 bonus tracks: Generator & Life). The music was their impression of NYHC. They also covered ‘Minor Threat’s song Betray.

My review in Tilt! #9: >>These guys think they live in N.Y.C. and wanna be the ‘Biohazard’ of the Far-East. Totally unoriginal, still ferocious hatecore to nod your head of. I can understand that if you’re in this just for the music, you’ll like this a lot but I can’t take this serious at all. Go figure: they even have a music publishing company to protect their copyright. Can you be more sold to the music-industry tahn that. DIY has a very weird meaning over there… Lyrics? All the clichés are there; why even bother!?!<<
